Refugio Cantalobos is a nonprofit making organization founded in response to the high number of animals in Spain that are abandoned and maltreated. Part of the project is a canine and feline residence designed to help finance the costs generated by the large number of resident abandoned animals. The committee is an international group of animal lovers who have decided to unite their skills and help with every aspect of the project. Refugio Cantalobos is legally registered as G 18645903
Our History: In the year 2006 the Varela Walter family bought a 30.000 m2 plot of land to donate it to the local community with a signed contract that the Town Hall would build a shelter for abandoned animals. After many complications the project was fully financed by the Varela Walter family, as the Town Hall never fulfilled their part of the agreement.
In the year 2013, after paying the obligatory license fees and obtaining all the required documentation, Refugio Cantalobos was finally able to open.
The Varela family have since moved on to other projects and the shelter is now being run by Valle Verde Animal Rescue
